Mount
Pleasant offers an abundance of cultural and leisure activities.
The Mount Pleasant Community Theatre Association has presented
more than 75 theatrical productions since it was established
in 1969. Performances have included popular musicals like
"The Sound of Music" and "Fiddler on the Roof," "The Glass
Menagerie" and other dramas as well as comedies and the ever-popular
children's productions. The Association is operated entirely
by volunteers and a variety of local facilities are used for
the productions.
The Mt. Mount Pleasant Public Library offers a collection
of more than 52,000 items- hardback and paperback books, videos,
taped books, computer programs, large print materials and
music of all kinds, along with access to much more through
the Inter-Library Loan System. The library features an extensive
local history/genealogy section, a large collection of children's
materials, story hours and summer reading programs for children,
special adult programming and computers with internet access
available for free public use.
Dozens and dozens of clubs and organizations, from philanthropic
to religious to social or health-related, abound in Mount
Pleasant. The Iowa State University Henry County Extension
Office in Mount Pleasant offers adults and youth programming,
help with crops, parenting, nutrition, community development,
and more. The Southeast Iowa Symphony, producing fine music
for many years, also calls this community home.
