The Mt. Vernon Airport is a major regional airport providing
a full range of aircraft support services. Runway 5/23 is over
6,000 feet, and 15/33 is over 3,000 feet. Runways and taxiways
are all paved, and the ramp can accommodate numerous visitors
and overnight guests. Guests of the Mt. Vernon Airport have
included Air Force One, the Blue Angels, the Goodyear Blimp,
a flight of five Taylorcraft on their way to Oshkosh, Wisconsin
and many other illustrious visitors. The airport offers ILS,
GSP and VOR approaches; HIRL, VASI, AWOS, PCL and Unicom. Strategically
located, with fast service, non-congested airspace and easy
access in all weather conditions, the Mt. Vernon Airport is
a convenient option for visitors and based aircraft of all categories.
Rental
aircraft available include Cessna 150; 172; and a fully-instrumented,
certified 182. Flight instruction is available, and a formal
ground course is offered. There is an instrument simulator on-site,
as well as private areas for instructors and students to conduct
pre-flight and post-flight briefings. The Mt. Vernon Airport
is a great place to learn how to fly or to improve your flying
skills.
Williams
Aviation offers complete aircraft maintenance services. Dave
Williams, IA, A&P can handle everything from routine maintenance,
periodic checks and annuals to unexpected repairs and major
overhauls. Dave works with students from Southern Illinois University,
which attests to the quality and competency of his work. He
has been working on aircraft for over 20 years and is ready
to take care of your airplane in his Mt. Vernon Airport facility.
New
to Mt. Vernon Airport this year is Linda’s Restaurant.
Offering a complete menu, Linda’s has something for every
taste. From breakfast, lunch and dinner to special-events catering
services, Linda’s can satisfy of all your dining appetites.
Phone in your order to Unicom, and Linda’s will have it
ready and waiting for you at the FBO when you stop to refuel.
Drop in for dinner on the patio; enjoy the sunset and watch
the runways light up while you enjoy a fine meal.
Air
Evac Medical Flight Services is based at the Mt. Vernon Airport.
You may see the helicopter on the ramp or tucked into a hangar.
The crew’s living quarters are on-site, and they are on
call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to take care of any medical
emergency. The Mt. Vernon Airport is proud to give them a home.
Flightline
Aero Services offers a full range of FBO services; 100LL and
JetA are available by truck. The FBO operates from 6 a.m. to
8 p.m. daily, with call-out services available after hours.
Chart services, a flight-planning room, weather services, a
pilots’ lounge, restrooms, snack machines and an exercise
facility are available at the FBO.
The
Mt. Vernon Airport supports numerous community activities with
a wide array of space and services. A fully stocked fishing
lake accommodates several fishing tournaments. Specially wired
electrical outlets support various home shows and the American
Cancer Society’s annual Jefferson County Cancer Walk.
Hangars are utilized for dances, church groups and meetings.
Walking trails and picnic areas are available in a beautiful,
natural setting. Facilities are also available for meetings,
reunions, receptions and family gatherings.
The
Airport also offers hangar space for based and visiting aircraft.
Visitors such as the performers of the Mt. Vernon Airshow and
An Air Odyssey enjoy the facilities, as well as those participating
in the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter’s annual
Fly-In and the Civil Air Patrol.
The
Mt. Vernon Airport is here to meet all your flying needs, as
