Places to Go, Things to Do

Sports
Jeffersontown has been building and expanding its sports venues in recent years and has become a major national center for sporting events. Up-to-date facilities, as well as an abundance of hotels, restaurants and services, have attracted athletes and spectators to the city.

In April 2003, Jeffersontown welcomed the Mid-South Conference Championships. The Mid-South Conference is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and encompasses 10 schools, including six private institutions from Kentucky. The seven sports championships included cheerleading, golf, tennis, baseball and softball, with cross-country and volleyball competing later in the fall.

Skyview Park is the home of the Jeffersontown Little League. Skyview has hosted the Little League World Series for Senior League Girls Softball, various Little League District and Regional tournaments, and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Fastpitch Softball State Tournament.

Opened in 1999, Champions indoor baseball facility brings more recognition to Jeffersontown. The official training center of the Louisville Bats, a AAA team affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds, this 40,000-square-foot complex offers players professional instruction, automated batting machines, camps, leagues, tournaments and a large, indoor Astroturf field that can be used for team workouts, league tryouts and more.

Another indoor facility, MidAmerica Sports Center, has also made a new home in Jeffersontown. The region’s premier indoor sports facility, MidAmerica opened in October 2002. The 64,000-square-foot facility includes nine volleyball courts and five full-size basketball courts. All courts are surfaced with SportShield™ by SportCourt™, the most advanced playing surface available. Other features include team training courts, seating at each court for spectators, tanning beds and a 4,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art fitness center, staffed with professional personal trainers to work with individuals, groups or teams. MidAmerica also offers conference rooms for events and team meetings. The MidAmerica Volleyball Association Sharks are proud to call MidAmerica home.
