Welcome to Murray and Calloway County

"Murray and Calloway County is one of the most unique communities in our state and country," says Tab Brockman, Executive Vice President of the Murray-Calloway Chamber of Commerce. "We have a vibrant, growing community that still enjoys the charm of small- town friendliness."

Brockman was recently hired as Executive Vice President of the Chamber in 2003, but he has been "selling" Murray for some time. Brockman and his family moved back to Murray after spending several years in the Louisville area.

Murray-Calloway County, Kentucky, is actually easy to sell. As one resident put it, Murray is Small Town U.S.A. In addition to being one of Kentucky's leading tobacco producers, Calloway County is also home to a major regional university and a growing number of businesses and industries.

Murray State University adds a tremendous amount of flavor to this community. With over 10,000 students, Murray State is becoming well known throughout the country, receiving acknowledgements of excellence right and left. With the university in Murray's backyard, the work force is generally more educated and more diverse. "Murray State provides hundreds of community activities and benefits that can only be provided through one of our country's top universities," says Brockman.

Of course, there are many who simply visit other areas and immediately recognize the safety, lifestyle advantages and hospitality Murray offers, and stay here their entire lives. "Caring about each other is not a one-time action, but a way of life in Murray, Kentucky," says Brockman. "Murray is a special place to call home. Many people who've lived here take extraordinary steps to get back here once they've moved away."

To sum it up, Tab Brockman describes Murray as "comfortable" and "all- American." Murray is a charming town coupled with friendly people and exciting opportunities – come see for yourself!
