Schoolcraft
College is a public, tax-supported community college with
a main campus at the western edge of Livonia. The college
was founded October 24, 1961, and more than 370,000 people
have studied at Schoolcraft College since it opened
for classes in 1964. This valuable community resource serves
more than 30,000 credit and non-credit students each year.
Schoolcraft College is committed to providing a comprehensive
range of high-quality noncredit educational and institutional
support services in addition to credit classes and programs.
Special events such as theatre performances, concerts, films,
lectures, dinners and conferences can be scheduled on the
Livonia campus or at the Radcliff Center in Garden City. The
college welcomes these activities and is available to co-sponsor
educational programs to help reduce the cost.
The Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts Department welcomes
guests to their student-operated restaurant, the American
Harvest. The Culinary Arts Program at Schoolcraft College
is one of the finest programs in the Midwest. You will be
treated to a gourmet lunch prepared and served by the talented
student chefs.
The women’s intercollegiate sports program includes
cross-country, basketball, soccer and volleyball. The men’s
intercollegiate program includes basketball, soccer and golf.
Non-traditional students can register for a selection of telecourses,
audio courses and other media-assisted instruction.
Distance Learning classes are fully credited, transferable
college courses that provide an alternative to the traditional
on-campus classroom setting by offering the option of earning
college credit at home.
Weekend College is designed for motivated, independent students
whose professional or personal commitments make it difficult
to attend classes during the week. Weekend students have opportunities

Madonna
University
Founded
by the Felician Sisters of Livonia in 1947, Madonna University
is one of the largest Catholic Franciscan independent universities
in the country. Through undergraduate, graduate and continuing
professional studies, Madonna University provides men and
women with the opportunity for intellectual, spiritual and
personal growth.
The mission of Madonna University is to instill in its students
Christian humanistic values, intellectual inquiry, a respect
for diversity and a commitment to serve others, through a
liberal arts education integrated with career preparation
and based on the truths and principles recognized in Catholic
tradition.
While maintaining fidelity to the teaching authority of the
Catholic Church in its academic curriculum, Madonna University
promotes an appreciation for and openness to other religious
traditions and encourages an atmosphere of respect and sensitivity
to all. Both older and younger adults with varied economic,
religious, social and cultural backgrounds make up the diverse
student body of Madonna University. Current enrollment is
approximately 4,000 students.
More than 50 undergraduate majors and a growing number of
graduate study programs are designed to meet the needs of
its diverse student body. With a student–faculty ratio
of 15-to-1, Madonna University is a student-centered campus,
responding quickly and effectively to student needs.
The athletic department at Madonna University has grown to
a seven-sport program recognized by the National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). It is a member of the
Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Sports offered
include men’s baseball, basketball and soccer, and women’s
softball, basketball, soccer and volleyball.
With tuition well below the national average for private universities,
Madonna University is the most affordable independent liberal
arts university in Michigan. No student at Madonna pays the
full cost of his or her education. Because of the generosity
of many benefactors and aggressive fund-raising efforts, students
are assessed only 75 percent of the actual tuition cost. In
addition to this subsidy, more than 50 percent of Madonna
students receive financial assistance.
Eastern
Michigan University
Eastern
Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti, Michigan is a comprehensive
university founded by the state legislature in 1849. With
an enrollment exceeding 23,000, it is the fifth-largest university
in Michigan. EMU offers more than 200 graduate and undergraduate
programs.
Eastern Michigan University recently brought its 150-year
tradition of quality education closer to residents of Wayne
and Oakland counties, opening its newest campus at Interstate
275 and Six Mile Road. The new center is designed for working
adults, recognizing the obligations of busy schedules.
Northwood
University
Established
in 1959, Northwood University incorporates the teachings of
the American free-enterprise system into college classrooms,
focusing on management-oriented studies.
A private coeducational school, Northwood prepares students
for the working world by bringing successful career professionals
into the classroom, while tailoring educational offerings
to both business and the arts.
Northwood University has campuses in Michigan, Texas and Florida,
with extension centers across the United States and abroad.
Central
Michigan University
In
the past nine years, Central Michigan University’s Livonia
Center has served 6,000 students. The site on Seven Mile Road
is currently offering 15 courses, with nearly 400 students
registered.
Central Michigan offers a computer lab, advising offices,
lighted parking and three large classrooms. Students can work
toward a Master of Science in Administration, with concentrations
in general studies, human resources, health services and other
fields. Four undergraduate degrees are offered as well.
University
of Phoenix
Accredited
in 1978, the University of Phoenix is committed to innovation,
high educational standards and superior student service, and
is the nation’s largest accredited private university
for working adults. Since its inception, the school has provided
degree and certificate programs to over 500,000 adults, with
more than 67,000 working students enrolled.
Classes are organized into problem-solving teams, with small
class sizes contributing to intense interaction. Courses are
taken one at a time and involve both textbook analysis and
real-life problem solving. Flexible scheduling is aimed at
working professionals, with classes meeting one night each
week for five to six weeks. Instructors are managers, financial
officers, entrepreneurs and corporate executives who work
in the fields they teach.
Degree programs include business accounting, business administration,
business management, business marketing, nursing, health care
management, computer information systems and more. Both undergraduate
and graduate programs are offered.
