St. Mary Mercy Hospital
in Livonia celebrated 40 years of service to the community in
1999. The hospital continues its commitment to quality healthcare
through expansions and new technology. Known for high-quality,
personalized care, the hospital’s latest additions include
a state-of-the-art, 24-hour Emergency Center, with convenient
Fast Track and Chest Pain Evaluation areas. A dedicated Outpatient
Services Center also provides easier access for patients.
St. Mary Mercy, a member of Trinity Health, is a 304-bed acute-
care hospital. More than 400 physicians, 1,450 employees and
200 volunteers provide advanced medical care in a personal,
compassionate manner.
“As a community hospital, we provide advanced emergency
services and outpatient care with the support of a full-service
inpatient hospital,” says David Spivey, President and
CEO.
Fast Track, open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., 365 days a year, offers
a separate waiting and registration site and is designed for
rapid evaluation and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses.
The specialized Chest Pain Evaluation Unit provides cardiac
diagnosis, monitoring and treatment.
St. Mary Mercy is one of 17 hospitals in Wayne County that make
up Health Emergency Medical Services. A heliport is available
near the emergency entrance for efficient patient air-transport
when needed.
“We have also placed a renewed emphasis on cancer and
cardiac care,” adds Spivey. “The oncology program
provides diagnosis, assessment, treatment and follow-up throughout
the cancer-treatment cycle.”
Radiation oncology is administered under the direction of physicians
trained specifically in radiation therapy. The team approach,
which includes physicists, technologists and nurses, works to
provide continuity in radiation therapy.
A key component of the hospital’s mission is the Marian
Women’s Center, offering a personal setting for special
diagnostic testing such as mammography, ultrasound, bone density
and EKG, as well as education and support programs tailored
to women’s needs.
The Miracle of Life Birthing Center provides private Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum
(LDRP) suites in a family- centered atmosphere.
The Child Care Center at St. Mary Mercy has received “New
Kids” and “Best on the Block” awards, presented
by the Michigan Child Care Challenge in Lansing. Staff members
hold degrees in the field of child development.
Livonia residents are also served by several specialty clinics
and practices, including those affiliated with the University
of Michigan Medical Center and St. Joseph Mercy Medical Center.
Providence and Botsford hospitals, as well as other clinics,
are within 25 minutes of Livonia.
