Sturgis, MI

Location

"The Gateway City"

Located midway between Detroit and Chicago, Sturgis is blessed with a prime southwest Michigan location in St. Joseph County and has officially been christened “The Gateway City.”

Sturgis lies less than one mile from the northern Indiana state line; Grand Rapids and Toledo, Ohio, are approximately 140 miles away. It takes less than an hour to drive to Fort Wayne or South Bend, Indiana; Battle Creek; or Kalamazoo from Sturgis. Interstate 80/90 (Indiana east-west toll road) is just one mile south of Sturgis; U.S. 12 and Michigan Highway 66 run through the city.

Several Conrail Railroad freight carriers still transport from Sturgis.

Sturgis has its own airport — Kirsch Municipal Airport — which has two runways and is at an altitude of 924 feet above sea level. One runway is 5,200 feet long, and the other is 3,421 feet long. The airport is located in the northwest corner of the city, one mile from the downtown business district. It offers charter service, full-service aircraft repair and maintenance, aircraft sales, flight instruction, and short rides for pleasure.

Conveniently located close to Sturgis are three commercial airports: Kalamazoo, just 45 miles to the north; South Bend, 45 miles to the west; and Fort Wayne, 50 miles to
the south.
