Callaway County and surrounding areas.

Whether patients need emergency care, surgical services, diagnostic
care or preventive medicine, the dedicated medical staff at Callaway
Community Hospital offers personalized, quality care with compassion,
dignity and respect. The medical staff is committed to meeting the growing
health care needs of the community.
Callaway Community Hospital operates as a 49-bed acute care facility.
It provides primary medical care as well as related outpatient skilled
nursing and community health services. Surgical, diagnostic imaging,
CT, MRI, respira-tory therapy, laboratory and 24-hour emergency services
are just a few of the services offered. Childbirth and breastfeeding
classes enhance a modern health/delivery room for obstetrical services.
The Health and Wellness Center extends rehabilitation and physical therapy
services.
Callaway Community Hospital's Specialty Clinics, located across the
street from the hospital, offer a large spectrum of services for the
convenience of community members. Services offered include cataract
surgery, hearing testing and hearing aid care, podiatry, diabetes counseling,
and pulmonary and cancer care.
Community Home Care is a home-health agency providing home services
for the community. The dedicated staff of professional nurses and therapists
assists residents of Callaway and surrounding counties in recuperating
at home from illnesses or surgery. They specialize in patients with
joint replacements, wounds, IV therapy and acute episodes of diabetes,
heart problems and strokes.
An assortment of community education services enhances the health care
network of Callaway Community Hospital. Programs are offered for various
age groups. A walking path within the hospital promotes wellness through
the Hall Walkers' Program. Flu shots, CPR, blood pressure screenings,
industrial medicine and blood drives encourage health maintenance.
Callaway Community Hospital also has a very active auxiliary consisting
of over 125 members. The auxiliary provides scholarship awards for area
students and donates funds to the hospital for various equipment needs.
Annually, the auxiliary awards several $1,000 scholarships to Callaway
County students who are interested in some aspect of the medical profession.
FULTON STATE HOSPITAL
Fulton State Hospital, the oldest mental health facility west of the
Mississippi, supplies area-wide care for people facing mental illness.
Currently, the hospital has a capacity of 484 beds and is renowned for
its provision of highly specialized rehabilitation programs specifically
designed for people with severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital
works tirelessly on behalf of those they serve to help them recover
from their illnesses, enabling progressive movement from more- to less-structured
environments and an eventual return to the community and to a healthy
and productive life.
Fulton serves the 31 counties in central and northern Missouri. Fulton
State Hospital is linked to the region's publicly funded network of
community mental health centers, which offer outpatient and short-term
services. When these facilities are no longer able to care for persons
with long-term treatment needs, Fulton State Hospital steps in. Patients
are referred to Fulton State Hospital on either a voluntary or involuntary
basis. Today, over 500 patients come to the hospital to receive the
most advanced medication, counseling and rehabilitative services available
in modern therapy, offered in a compassionate and professional manner
by highly skilled experts and professionals. As always, Fulton State
Hospital treats patients with the ultimate goal of returning them to
full and active lives within their communities.
OTHER HEALTH SERVICES
Individual and family needs for dental, chiropractic, optometric and
other types of health care are well served in the area. Instead of driving
long distances, these services are all here within the community.
For senior adults, the area has several assisted-living complexes. Often,
residents are able to live mostly independently but are provided with
meals and varying levels of assistance. Some are simply looking for
friendship and social interaction, while others require some form of
medical attention. For people who need 24-hour-a-day residential care,
the area provides two skilled nursing facilities.
