Located
in the "Heart of North Carolina," Chatham County is the perfect
place to live and work. The newly upgraded four-lane U.S. Highway 64
grants easy access to the North Carolina mountains and the North Carolina
coast. U.S. Highway Routes 15-501, 421 and 1 link tourism and business
with vital interstate accessibility. Interstates 40, 85 and 95 are within
an hour of the county.
Rocky
River, east of Siler City, and Haw River, east of Pittsboro, carve the
rolling terrain of the county into thirds. Deep River and Cape Fear
River fashion much of the southern boundary of the county. With 707
square miles, Chatham County is one of the largest counties in North
Carolina. Pine, hickory and walnut trees dominate the forest that blankets
the area.
Industry
prospers through the availability of motor freight carriers, railway
services and international airports. Raleigh Durham International Airport
(RDU) in Raleigh, Piedmont Triad International (PTI) in Greensboro and
the Siler City Municipal Airport provide air travel options unsurpassed
by most communities.
Moderate
year-round temperatures encompass the area. Average temperatures range
from the mid-30s in the winter to the 80s in the summer. Yearly rainfall
is in the 45- to 50-inch range. Snowfall averages just less than eight
inches.
