Simpsonville is fortunate to have a balanced mix of business
and industry. Large industry employs literally thousands of
people in the Simpsonville area but no single industry predominates.
Almost all of the local industry is non-union and South Carolina
is a right-to-work state. Some of the largest employers in
Simpsonville include Cryovac Division of Sealed Air Corporation,
producers of packaging products for the food industry and
KEMET Electronics, manufacturers of capacitors-electronic
components of computers. Other major industries in the area
include Michelin Tire Corporation with its North American
headquarters, General Electric, makers of gas turbine electricity
generators, and BMW, producers of fine automobiles.
Small and medium size businesses are equally important to
Simpsonville's prosperity and success. The large industries
have attracted numerous smaller businesses that supply various
components of the finished products. Others offer an unusually
vast array of goods and services such as hotels, restaurants,
shopping centers, retail garden supplies, real estate, building
and construction and on and on. Economic diversity is one
key to Simpsonville's phenomenal growth and success.
