Dallas Independent School District
The Dallas Independent School District is the 10th-largest in the nation, featuring 234 schools with an enrollment of 163,763. The North Dallas area is host to more than 30 of these schools. Each school takes pride in providing each student with an equal opportunity for quality education.
DISD offers kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools, as well as magnet schools, occupational education, alternative schools, cooperative education, special education, gifted student programs and many special-needs programs. One of the district’s most popular programs is its affiliation with the Satellite Education Resources Consortium (SERC). This joint program gives students access to live interactive instruction via satellite, enabling them to learn Japanese and Russian through audio and video systems. In the near future, it is anticipated that each classroom in the district will be equipped to tie into the telecommun-ications network.
In addition, 58 other school districts also serve students in the six-county area.
