In Perryton, residents have a deep connection with the community.

The area has a healthy sports program, beautiful parks, conscientious civic groups, museums and a theater to entertain the entire family. All this, and more, adds up to a quality of life that’s unsurpassed by any community.

The community is very involved in volunteer efforts geared toward making Ochiltree County an even better place to live. One such volunteer group is the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. Through the organization, at-risk youth are given an adult mentor who spends one-on-one time with a child, fostering self-esteem. This and other programs in the Perryton area demonstrate the willingness of Perryton residents to go the extra mile in making Ochiltree County a great place to live.

The Ochiltree County Exposition Center is the heart of many events in Ochiltree County. There are rodeo grounds for watching your favorite cowboy ride a bull and a city swimming pool for cooling off during the warm summer months. Well-kept baseball and softball fields give young and old alike a chance to enjoy America’s favorite pastime, and the 18-hole golf course offers duffers a chance to practice their putts while staying close to home.

At the local two-screen theater you can watch the latest blockbuster while eating freshly made popcorn. Or, bring home a movie from one of the local video rental stores to watch in the comfort of your own living room. If you would rather lose yourself in a book, check one out at the Perry Memorial Library. Here you will find thousands of books to capture your imagination or to give you instructions on that project you are ready to tackle.

The City of Perryton has five city parks ready for you to spread out your blanket in the shade and enjoy a picnic while letting the children play on the playground equipment. There are soccer fields and tennis courts to help residents keep in shape, and you will often hear the sound of parents cheering on their children during friendly games.

The Senior Citizens Center is a gathering place for older Perryton residents. There are socials, games and meals, all of which bring together good friends ready to reminisce about days gone by and to make new memories.

The Perryton Vicinity Activity Center is a gathering place for active adults and children. The Center has racquetball and basketball courts on which you can work up a sweat. Cool off in the indoor pool, or continue your workout in the health club.

For over 25 years, the Museum of the Plains has been preserving Ochiltree County’s history. The museum began in one room on the third floor of the county courthouse in 1975; today the museum’s five buildings sit on a 3-acre parcel of land in Perryton. In addition to being an invaluable community asset by storing pale-ontology and archeology exhibits pertaining to Ochiltree County, the museum also preserves the region’s past by providing historical glimpses of life in Ochiltree County.

The Museum of the Plains hosts traveling exhibits that highlight the Old West as it was over 100 years ago. The museum also hosts several annual events, such as Pioneer Days, which is held in conjunction with the annual Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration in Perryton. Organizations, clubs and schools can schedule tours of the museum throughout the year.

Come to Ochiltree County and enjoy the high quality of life the region offers to all its residents. Whether you like spending time outdoors or touring a museum, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the Wheatheart of the Nation!
