Welcome to Ochiltree County, “Wheatheart of the Nation,” and Perryton, “City on the Move!”

Born on the High Plains of Texas in the early 1900s, Perryton is the gateway to Texas for travel and business. Located just minutes from Oklahoma and less than an hour from Kansas, our city enjoys year-round visitors from many states.

Perryton has natural beauty, with wide-open spaces and clean, clear air. Nearby lakes offer boating, recreation and fishing. We have vast wheat farms that have earned the county its well-known title as “Wheatheart of the Nation.” The annual Wheatheart Celebration is held in mid-August. Our active oil and gas fields produce vast amounts of petroleum.

We’re home to a fascinating history, from archaeological discoveries to the historical settling of an entire city at Perryton’s railroad. If you enjoy digging into the past, or just want to relax in the present, we have what you’re looking for.

The “front door” for this City on the Move is the Chamber of Commerce. Working through community leaders and volunteers, the Chamber is the source of energy for our enjoyable city. You’ll see the Chamber blending small-town values with the best of large-city opportunities.

All in all, we offer the kind of community you will appreciate with each High Plains sunrise and every Texas sunset. Whether you just plan to come for a visit or stay for a lifetime, we hope you will enjoy Perryton and Ochiltree County as much as we do!
