Founded in 1898, Vernal's city government consists of a mayor,
city manager and five city council members. The mayor and
city council members are elected to four-year terms, and the
council chooses the city manager. Vernal City is the commercial
hub of Uintah County and its government matches the area's
progressive spirit. Retail businesses are the cornerstone
of this growing community's civic structure that offers a
wide variety of residential and commercial services.
The Vernal area boasts a fully trained police and fire department.
Since Vernal's beginnings, Vernal has enjoyed steady, moderate
growth, partly due to booming tourism and steady revenues
from local natural gas and oil industries.
