A
wide range of quality elder care is available, from assisted
living to long-term care in facilities run by Alterra Health
Care, Inc., Luther Manor, and others.
The 258-acre Milwaukee Regional Medical Center is eastern
Wisconsin's largest academic health center. On the leading
edge of patient care, education, and medical research, the
Medical Center consists of six organizations. The Blood Center
and Blood Research Institute are nonprofit suppliers of all
the blood and blood components used by patients in more than
30 area hospitals. The Blood Center also provides transfusion-related
medical services and diagnostic testing for patients worldwide.
The Blood Research Institute, a national leader, is located
on the Medical Center Campus.
Children's
Hospital of Wisconsin is the state's only hospital
dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children, from
infants to teenagers. A private not-for-profit pediatric medical
center, it provides comprehensive impatient and outpatient
care and also serves as a center for the education of health
professionals in pediatric health care. This hospital is home
to more than 80 specialty clinics and Wisconsin's only pediatric
trauma center.
As one of the largest, most highly accredited rehabilitation
facilities in the nation, Curative Care Network serves children
and adults in medical, vocational, developmentally disabled
and mental health programs. Curative, a private nonprofit
agency, also trains rehabilitation professionals.
The physicians of the Medical College of Wisconsin staff Froedtert
Memorial Lutheran Hospital, a private, not-for-profit
teaching hospital. Froedtert's Centers of Excellence include
Cancer, Cardiovascular, Digestive Disease, Emergency, Musculoskeletal,
Neurosciences, Transplant, Trauma, and Women's Health.
The Medical
College of Wisconsin, a private school, offers medical
degree programs, residency training for physicians and scientists,
and continuing education for doctors and health professionals.
It is Wisconsin's largest private research institution, conducting
more than $55 million annually in funded research. Most of
the physicians at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center serve
on the Medical College faculty. At its Mental Health Complex
on the Medical Center campus, Milwaukee County Mental Health
Division offers a wide range of programs including inpatient
and psychiatric rehabilitation services, as well as community
services at other locations.
Together, these organizations employ approximately 10,000
and provide education and training to 1,600 medical students
and residents annually. Wisconsin's only Level 1 Emergency/Trauma
Center is located on the campus, which is also home of the
Flight for Life air ambulance service.
