Recreation
The Milwaukee County Parks System maintains 15 parks and play fields within our city, covering more than 1,200 acres. There are peaceful biking and hiking trails, picnic areas, and sports fields. The Menomonee River Parkway-greater than 650 acres-offers picturesque river frontage and green space. The remaining 300 acres of county parks in Wauwatosa provide for more active use. The largest of these are James Currie Park, Hoyt Park, Madison Park, and Jacobus Park.

Tee up for a challenging round on Currie's 18-hole golf course, or practice your game during cold weather at this park's indoor driving range. If you need a shorter course, Hansen Park offers 18 holes along the scenic Menomonee River. When the weather heats up, take a cool dip in the pool at Hoyt Park, then picnic or bike in the shade along the beautiful Menomonee River Parkway. Swimming is also available at the high schools' indoor pools, with programs for both adults and children. In winter, wax your skis and try the cross country trails in the county parks.

In addition to county parklands, nearly 15 percent of city owned land is dedicated to park and recreation areas. The city owned Hart Park, located near the historic Village, is a 19-acre wooded recreation area along the Menomonee River. Here you can watch a game of curling or skate year round on the indoor rink, cheer for your favorite team at the sports stadium, participate in community and neighborhood activities, or rent a newly renovated hall at the pavilion for special events.

Numerous festivals, parades, and special events in Wauwatosa delight our residents and visitors. Tosa Fest, held each September, offers ethnic food, entertainment, crafts, and an authentic Door County Fish Boil sponsored by the Wauwatosa Rotary. Summer nights buzz with concerts in the park, and don't forget to select some fresh, locally grown produce and homemade items at our Village Green Market.

Join the fun every day of the year at the Milwaukee County Zoo-one of America's great zoological parks. Just minutes away, Wisconsin State Fair Park hosts a variety of events all year long, including the annual 10-day fair in August. And State Fair's Milwaukee Mile, the world's oldest operating speedway, holds several major motor sports events each year. International speed skating enthusiasts can catch a glimpse of Olympic hopefuls and stars at the Pettit National Ice Center, then pull on a pair of skates and take a turn around this world-class indoor rink. For baseball fans, head for the new state-of-the-art Miller Park Stadium, home to the Milwaukee Brewers, where you can grab a famous Milwaukee hotdog or brat and a cup of brew while viewing the game. Excellent theatre, art and music can be enjoyed by visiting Wisconsin Lutheran and Mount Mary Colleges, or the Concord Chamber Orchestra.

We welcome visitors to Wauwatosa. With easy access to downtown, Milwaukee area hotels receive thousands of guests yearly. If you're not exhausted after exploring all of Wauwatosa's recreational activities, the summer season in Milwaukee is filled with ethnic festivals, such as Irish Fest, and the nationally renown Summerfest-one of the country's largest music festivals. The Midwest Express Center hosts large conventions and events, drawing visitors from across the nation to local hotels and restaurants. In addition, Milwaukee has its own symphony, ballet, and performing arts stages, where well known artists and Broadway tours captivate audiences. A trip to the art museum and public museum are a must when visiting Milwaukee.
